STEP 5 - DECISION MAKING; SELECT THE BEST SOLUTION (NARRATIVE ESSAY-BEST SOLUTION)

SELECT THE BEST SOLUTION THROUGH INTERVIEW WITH EXPERTS

BEST SOLUTION : SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS (GROUP DECISION)

We are as a team started a discussion in our group on 2nd Jan 2021, in selecting the best solution for the prevention of cyberbullying. Hence, we decided to vote on the selected solutions that we prepare earlier which is the roles of parents, schools and social media in overcome cyberbullying. Then majority of us voted for social media as the best solution for the prevention of cyberbullying. Based on the strength of social media platforms, we selected the best solution as social media platforms playing major role in prevent cyberbullying.

To be frank, social media is ruling the world now. In other words, the whole world is in our fingertips. According to our discussion, we point out 6 strengths from the social media platforms, which is the ability to block and report, developed educational materials, provide advices, bring awareness through advertisements, doing anti-bullying campaigns and also the function of abusive words filter.

First of all, the ability to blocking and reporting will help users to avoid abusive people from contacting them. This will help to prevent all interactions with someone by simply block them and report any hurtful comments. Next, social media sites also develop educational materials with the help of e-safety(NGO’s) that teach children about positive online relationships as an attempt to stop bullying. This will help them to gain more knowledge on how to use social media wisely. Not only that, social media platforms also provide advices in what we have to do when cyberbullying happened. They gave some useful tips on how to get over from the bullying.

Moreover, social media sites also spread the awareness of the affect or effect towards people about cyberbullying through their advertisements. It is proven that social media advertisements can improve the awareness by 70%. People nowadays spend their time mostly on social media. From this, people can spread or create a good advertising about the cyberbullying so that they can aware about this particular problem and help them to take one step forward to help others in overcome this issue. This advertising also can view on any of television channel, to spread the awareness of this particular problem.

In addition, social media platforms also alongside with NGO’s launched cyberbullying campaign. For example, Instagram and ‘Cybersmile’ have launched an inventive campaign ‘Banter or Bullying?’ to raise awareness of cyberbullying and to encourage young people to identify and manage their own personal boundaries. They also launched a series of interactive educational modules named ‘Using Instagram’s Safety Tools’, ‘Getting the most from Instagram’ and ‘Dealing with Bullying on Instagram’. They were all specially designed to help people get the best way to make use of the safety tools available to them. They also founded ‘Stop Cyberbullying Day’ which is celebrated on the third Friday of June every year. The ‘Stop Cyberbullying Day’ promotes kindness and encourage people from around the world to show their support for the day by using the #STOPCYBERBULLYINGDAY on social media alongside with their message.

In conclusion, although there are many ways to prevent cyberbullying and also different parties playing their roles, social media platforms had the most important role of them all. This is because, today most of cyberbullying cases started from social media. We are all spending a huge amount of time in social medias. So it is very important that people of all ages build the necessary skills to protect their online life and reach out for support when they need it.
